SCAM ALERT

Chief Copeland wants to share this information about a scam resurfacing in our area with the community. Citizens have reported being contacted by individuals identifying themselves as law enforcement officers and requesting money for various legal reasons. The caller will identify themselves as an agency employee and possibly provide some information to the victim to validate they are a Waynesville Police Officer or other law enforcement agency employee. They will then present a MISSED COURT DATE, OWED FINES, CRIMINAL OFFENSE or COURT PROCESS as the basis for calling. The caller will then request money or some form of electronic transfer to keep warrants from being issued or an arrest being made.

The Village of Waynesville's Police Department or the Warren County Sheriff’s Office DOES NOT conduct business in this manner.

Our employees do not arrange or accept money from the public in lieu of arrest or to resolve criminal or court-related matters.
