The Village staff has received several complaints regarding homeowners mowing their grass clippings into the street. The grass clippings create a very serious problem for the Village storm sewers. When grass clippings dry after being wet they become compacted and hard, which plugs up the storm grates in the streets. In addition, the grass gets into the storm sewers and plugs up the flow of storm water. When the storm water does not flow properly, it can cause water to back up into the basements of homes in that area. The Village does have an ordinance against mowing grass clippings into the streets. Village ordinance #154.211 identifies the disposal of rubbish (yard trimmings) and anyone violating this ordinance can be issued a misdemeanor citation. We ask that residents please help us with this matter and refrain from throwing or blowing any grass trimmings into the street.
Also, please do not place leaves in the street as this plugs the storm drains also.
We would like to thank you in advance for your assistance with this issue.
